Make Community Library a Summer Destination...
Join Junior Friends of the Library today! (Application deadline is May 4, 2012)
Be part of a great team... Which one do you want to join?

Summer Reading Club Team
You’ll work directly with children participating in the Summer Reading Club by logging their hours read and handing out prizes.
Applicants must either be 16 years old or have two years’ prior experience in this position. Must be organized, great with kids, and have excellent communication skills.
If selected, you will be assigned a weekly time to volunteer during our summer reading club, which runs June 11 - August 4.
 Parade Team
Assist with Community Library’s Independence Day float! Applicants must have finished 7th grade or higher.
Volunteers will help decorate the float and/or participate in the July 4th parade.
Viral Video Team
Help us make an original video promoting the library and/or reading that we’ll post on YouTube.
Then help the team set a goal for the number of page views you want the video to hit!
Applicants must have finished 6th grade or higher. The team meets Wednesdays from 11-noon in June and July, starting June 20 and ending July 25.
Distribution of this information does not necessarily mean endorsement or support by the Big Walnut Local School District but is provided as a public service.
Haunted Library Planning Committee
Help us plan for — and then star in — our Haunted Library, which will be presented the evening of Saturday, October 13.
Applicants must have finished 8th grade or higher.
If selected for this team, you will meet with group members on Thursdays in June and July from 1:00 - 2:00 PM, beginning June 14.
A few additional meetings may be required on Saturday mornings in September and October.
Flash Mob Team
Help us surprise Community Library patrons this summer with our very own flash mob! Applicants must have finished fifth grade or higher.
If selected for this team, you will meet with group members on June 14 and 28; July 5, 19, and 26; and August 2 from 3:00 - 4:00 PM (all Thursdays). We’ll tell you the secret date of the performance when we call you!
IDEA Team
Help kids ages 7 - 10 create their own computer worlds and animation with two user-friendly applications designed to teach basic programming skills.
Applicants must have finished 8th grade or higher. Must enjoy working with children, playing with computers, and be willing to learn how to create your own animations. No prior programming experience necessary.
The team will meet to learn the basics of the programs on Tuesdays from 3:00 - 4:00 PM on June 12, 19, and 26. Members would then help kids with their creations from 3:00 - 5:00 PM the following Tuesdays: July 10, 17, 24, and 31.
Teen volunteers are invited to attend our Jr. Friends Party Saturday, July 28 at 5:30 PM. Don’t miss it... The GameTruck is coming!
